Coretta Scott King Civil Rights Pioneer Biography Coretta Scott King Date of birth: April 27 1927 died: January 30, 2006 Coretta Scott Heiberg Was Born in Alabama and raised on the farm of her parents Bernice McMurry Scott, and Abdi Scott Perry County, Alabama. Ha exposed an early age in life Injustices in a segregated society. He walked five miles a day to enter the room intersection School in Marion, Alabama, while white students operate a School Bus for All the whites more closely. Young Coretta excelled in their studies, particularly music, and was a better student of their class graduated from Lincoln High School. He graduated in 1945 and received a scholarship to Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. As a student interested in moving active nascent civil rights, joined the Antioch chapter of the NAACP and the race for college and Civil liberties committee. He graduated with a degree of Antioch in music and education and won a scholarship to study concert singing the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. In Boston, he met a young theology student, Martin Luther King, Jr., and His Life changed forever man. They married on June 18, 1953 in a ceremony hosted by the groom to the father, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Sr. Coretta Scott King completed her studies in voice violin at the New England Conservatory and the small number in September 1954 moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where Martin Luther King Jr., has accepted the appointment as minister the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. Soon they are trapped in the tragic events that triggered the modern movement for civil rights. When Rosa Parks refused to give up their headquarters in a city bus in Montgomery to a white passenger was arrested for violating the law of the city, offering preferential treatment to white passengers in public vehicle. The Montgomery's black citizens organized immediately in defense of Mrs. Parks, and under the leadership of Martin Luther King organized a boycott of buses city. The bus boycott in Montgomery drew worldwide attention to the injustice permanent separation from the United States and led to court decisions that affect local ordinances separating the races in public transportation. Dr. King speak of promoting nonviolent civil disobedience soon became the most famous face of the civil rights movement, and is known to carry the gear in the Town after the city, with Mrs. King at his side, inspiring people, black and white, to challenge the law in isolation. Showing management of Dr. King said fierce opposition from supporters of the established Promise. In 1956, white supremacists bombed the house of King family in Montgomery. Ms. King and the first child the couple narrow escape injury. The King had four children in total: Yolanda Denise, Martin Luther III, Dexter Scott and Bernice Albertine. In 1957, Dr. King and Mrs. King went to Africa to celebrate the independence of Ghana. In 1959, he made a pilgrimage to India to honor the memory of Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of Nonviolence was inspired. The leadership of Martin Luther King movement for the rights of the rights recognized internationally when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1964, Mrs. King accompanied her husband when he visited Oslo, Norway to receive the award. In 1960, Dr. King spread his message and his activism to embrace the cause of peace and economic justice. Ms. King is in increasing demand as a public speaker. He became the first woman to deliver the starting address at Harvard Class Day and the first woman to preach to a legal service in St. Paul Cathedral in London. She wore a strike of Women for Peace representing 17 countries of the Conference on disarmament in Geneva, Switzerland in 1962. Ms King is now a link to peace and justice organizations even before Dr. King has taken a position publicly in 1967, against U.S. intervention in the Vietnam War. At April 4, 1968 Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. Channeling her grief, Mrs. King concentrated her energies to fulfill his wife work through the establishment of Luther Martin King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change as a living monument to her husband lives and dreams. Years of planning, fundraising and pressure groups before, but Mrs. King is inevitable, or had direct involvement in the abandonment of the reasons why his wife is found discussed. In 1969, Coretta Scott King released the first volume of his autobiography, My Life With Martin Luther King Jr. In the 1970s, Mrs. King maintained that her husband committed to the cause of economic justice. In 1974 he formed the complete Employment Action Council, a broad coalition of over 100 religious, work, business, civil rights and women organizations in national politics full employment and equal economic opportunity, Ms. King served as co-chairman of the board of directors. In 1981, the King Center, the first institution to built in memory of an African-American leader, opened to the public. The Center is located in the resort for freedom around the tomb of Martin Luther King in Atlanta, Georgia. It is part of a 23-acre national historic sites including the birthplace of Martin Luther King at Ebenezer Baptist Church where he and his father both preached. The King Center Library and Archives houses the largest collection of Civil Rights era. The Center receives More Than a million visitors a year, and trained thousands students, teachers, community leaders and administrators in the philosophy of Martin Luther King and Nonviolence strategy through seminars, workshops and training programs. Mrs. King continue to serve the cause of justice and Human Rights, her journey brought goodwill mission around the world in Africa, Latin America, Europe and Asia. To 1983, marked the 20th anniversary of the historic March on Washington to convene a meeting of over 800 human rights organizations, aware of the coalition, the largest demonstrations in the capital saw before. Mrs. King led the successful campaign to make Martin Luther King, January 15 as the U.S. holidays. By Act of Congress, national celebration party held in early 1986. Martin Luther King today marked the festival annually in more than 100 countries. Ms. King has invited President Clinton to attend the historic handshake between Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat for signing peace in the Middle East in 1993. In 1985, Mrs. King and three of his son was arrested South African Embassy in Washington, DC, to protest against the system of this country from apartheid, separation and isolation of the race. Ten years later, he has Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg when he was sworn in as president of South Africa. After 27 years as director of the King Center, Mrs. King hand over the leadership of the Center to his son men, Dexter Scott King in 1995. He is active in the cause of racial groups and economic justice, and recent years have devoted much of her energy to AIDS education and curbing gun violence. Although he died in 2006 at age 78, he remains a figure of inspiration for men and women worldwide.
